”And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey. And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.” Jonah 3:1-5
The preaching of the gospel is the most important and urgent thing in the earth today. From Genesis to Revelation it's all about God saving nations, individuals and families.
Soulwinning is the end result of preaching the gospel. There's no soulwinning until the preaching of the gospel.
“For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.” Romans 10:11-12
Apostle Paul makes a profound statement below about the necessity of preaching the gospel:
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” Romans 10:12-14
1. If people are going to be saved we must preach the gospel
“And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?” Romans 10:15-16
2. God wants everyone of his children to preach the gospel
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?”
God saw destruction coming to Nineveh, and he needed someone who could go to that city to preach the gospel. And he sent Jonah.
Jonah refused to go until God caused Jonah to be swallowed up by a big fish before he agreed to preach. Jonah 3:2
3. God wants to save lives but he needs us to preach the gospel.
“Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;” Titus 1:1-3
The preaching of the gospel is so important such that if we don't preach the gospel eternal life will not be manifested.
EXAMPLES OF THOSE WHO PREACHED THE GOSPEL
1. ISAIAH
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;” Isaiah 61:1
The first thing the Holy Ghost does in you and with you is to preach the gospel. Isaiah was a preacher (Isaiah 61:2-6)
“And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”Luke 4:16-19
The first job God gave to Jesus was preaching the gospel, this lets you know the importance of preaching the gospel.
3. NOAH
“For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;” 2Peter 2:4-5
Look at how the bible described Noah; his preaching caused God to take action against the world.
Do you know that ROR in every language is proof that God is bringing judgment to the nations.
4. SOLOMON
“The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.” Eccl 1:1
Solomon described himself as a preacher
He was the wiset man that ever lived before Jesus and he told us how to be wise. Proverbs 11:30
The wisdom of God turns you to a preacher. You can’t have God's wisdom and be quiet.
5. JEREMIAH
“Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.” Jeremiah 20:9
Jeremiah could not but preach the gospel despite how he felt, it was like fire shut up in his bones.
“And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.” Acts 8:1-4
That was what the early Christians did. Through preaching the gospel the righteousness of God is established.
